Stop Being So Productive

When I say this, I don’t mean just be a lazy bum and forget all your cares in the world. I’m telling you to give yourself a break. Let yourself catch a breath for a second and actually chill. You were not given this life just to be filled with stress and anxiety 24/7.

You are here on this planet and at this time to follow you’re soulful purpose and enjoy being a human being. So relax for a beat and let yourself remember that.

Go on long walks in nature. Take a hot bath at night. Paint. Try a new recipe. Pray. Knit. Journal your feelings. Spend an hour eating ice cream and chatting with a friend. Read a novel. Watch old movies. Drive and blast your favorite songs. Sing in the shower. Check in on your parents. Meditate. Float in the water. Dance naked. Play a board game. Go people watch at a park. Do a face mask Learn a new language. Play an instrument. Roll down a grassy hill like you did as a child. Try to whistle to birds. Watch the clouds move. Find constellations in the night sky. Kiss someone. Brush your hair. Laugh until your stomach hurts and your eyes water. Do what you can to enjoy this present moment before it’s gone.

You don’t have to wait until the end of the finish line to feel enjoyment. Life is a journey, not a destination.

I know we live in a world that focuses so much on productivity and validation, but I think we lose ourselves more when we live for others. You are a human being. Not a robot. Not a statistic. Not your income. Not your social ranking. Not what society says is okay. Not even your parents value.

I firmly believe we make the most soul-shaping progress when we stop and smell the roses. So do yourself that favor and stop being so productive.
